Recently

Don't get too excited!  Nothing big has happened!  

Just a lot of little things that I would like to remember.  I don't know about you, but it seems to me that the days go by so fast.  And now that we have Jack, I want to remember every single second of every single day!  And while I know I can't possibly do that, I can try to remember the small seemingly meaningless activities that actually mean a lot and that I'll be glad I documented one day.  

For starters, Jack is battling a cold.  It's so sad.  Although he doesn't act like he feels that bad, he has a nasty cough and is sneezing a lot.  It is very sad for Mommy, especially because I can't give him anything.  I feel so helpless . . .

Monday was MLK day, so Jonathan got to go into work a little later and hang out with his buddy a little longer.  He usually doesn't get to see Jack at all in the mornings, since we are usually still sleeping when he leaves for work :)

I put a Baby Einstein video in for Jack for the first time this week, and he loved it!  LOVED it.  He stared at the TV so intently and got so excited just waving his little arms and legs around.  It was so cute!  And it was also nice knowing that when I need to get some things done, I can put him in his Tatamia, put a video in, and he will be fine.  Good for Mommy and baby :)

Later in the day on Monday, we went to Publix . . . and just like his Dad, he doesn't seem to be too fond of the store . . .

I made some derisious (yes, dericious) banana bread, and it is almost gone.

After the banana bread, the three of us went on a jog.  I do not have a picture of this, because I could barely breath much less lift my arms to take a picture.  I am out of shape. Big time.

When we got home, Daddy gave Jack a bath.

And then we finished Monday night with some chili and a fire.  Ah, so nice. 

So, since we had such a busy day on Monday, we've been taking it easy and trying to get better.

I surely do hope that this little guy feels better soon!

Giggles and Doctor's Appointment (But not at the same time)

Jack had his two month check up this past Monday!

We are happy to say that he got a great report from the doctor - we have a happy, healthy baby boy!

  He weighed in at a staggering 13 lbs. 5 oz., putting him in the 97th percentile for weight.  I forgot to ask how long he is, but he's in the 97th percentile for that as well and 90th percentile for head circumference.  Our little man is just growing like a weed!

So after he got all checked out, the nurse came in to give him his vaccinations.  Ugh. Was not ready for this at all.  I think because Jack had no idea what was about to happen, and he was just laying there being his sweet, happy, content little self, it made this whole process even worse.  That mean old nurse, who is now on my bad list, stuck his sweet, innocent little thighs with four LONG needles, sending him and Mom into an all-out emotional breakdown!  Let me just say, my baby was not his usual happy self that day and I was quite perturbed as well.

On a much happier note...

Jonathan got Jack to laugh for the first time the other night!  It was the funniest thing ever, and we just laughed and laughed ourselves.  His little personality is showing itself more and more everyday, and I have to say, it's pretty cute :)

Two Months!

Dear Jack,

You were two months old this past Saturday!

Your second month has brought with it a lot of heart-warming moments for Mommy and Daddy.  You are really starting to show your personality more.  You are cooing and smiling, which of course just melts our hearts, and you are also making eye-contact with us more often.  

You are really starting to find your voice.  You have these "conversations" with Daddy.  You talk to Mommy, but not quite like you do to Daddy - I guess y'all are discussing boy things.  You and I have our moments too though.  Some of my favorites are when you are looking at me and I'm looking back at you and you smile or coo at me - I truly can't imagine anything sweeter.

You are still in size 1 diapers and 0-3 months size clothes.  You are getting to be a chunky little thing though - you have rolls on your little thighs that make Mommy swoon!  I did put you in a 3-6 month size outfit recently, and it wasn't that big on you.  I'm not quite sure how much you weigh at this point, but we'll find out at your next appointment, which is coming up soon.

You are still sleeping in the bassinet in our room.  I figured I wouldn't try putting you in your crib until you start sleeping through the night more regularly.  You are still waking up about once a night to nurse, and you go right back to sleep like a champ.  You are still eating about every three hours during the day, although you do go for longer stretches every now and then. 

We have noticed you noticing your hands, which is very cute, and you have also started to suck on your little fist.  

You are still a VERY even-tempered baby, which we are so thankful for.  You are all smiles mostly unless you have gas and even then you don't fuss that much.  I think most people that are around you are amazed at how quiet and content you actually are.

 

 You are stealing our hearts each and every day, Jack!  Mommy and Daddy love you very much!      

  

Exciting News, Activity Mat, and Tummy Time!

I have some exciting news this morning!

The reason I'm up at 6:30 AM putting up a blog post . . .

Jack slept through the night last night!!!

I can hardly believe I'm saying it, and I'm hesitant to get too excited about it, but I AM PUMPED!

I definitely didn't think it would be this soon, and that's why I'm a little hesitant.  He has been sleeping for longer periods over the past week, and then last night he slept from midnight until 6 AM!

This momma is excited and rested!

On to other news . . .

I put Jack on his activity mat yesterday, and he loved it!  For the first time, he actually acknowledged his little stuffed animal friends above!  It was really cute, and of course, I immediately got my phone out and started to video it :)

1 Month!

Dear Jack,

You are one month old today!

How can this be true?  You can't be one month old already!  Where in the world have the past four weeks gone?  You are changing and growing before our very eyes, giving Mommy something new to cry about on a daily basis.

You are quickly losing that "newborn" look and are looking more and more like a little baby.  While this does make Mommy a bit sad,  she is loving that your cheeks seem to get chubbier by the day and that you have now developed a double chin!  

You weigh 11 pounds and are 22 3/4" long!

Your pediatrician says that your weight gain is "extraordinary"!  You love to eat and are still waking up about every two to three hours to nurse.  You are able to go back and forth between actual breast feeding and a bottle with ease, which is apparently difficult for a lot of babies at this stage.  You have officially outgrown your newborn clothes and diapers are now wearing 0-3 month size clothes and size 1 diapers.

You are a good sleeper from what we've seen so far (thank goodness!)  You are still sleeping in a bassinet in our room, and you don't seem to stir much in between feedings.  We have found that your favorite sleeping position is laying on your stomach on Mommy or Daddy's chest.  We would probably have you sleep like this at night if we thought it was a safe way for you to sleep, because you could literally sleep like this for hours!  You could also sleep for hours in your car seat.   

You are becoming more alert each and every day.  You are staying awake for longer periods during the day and are able to focus in on people and objects much more easily.  It is amazing to your Daddy and I, but you can already hold your head up!  Now it does take quite a bit of effort, but we just think it's the most precious thing ever.  You can push yourself up with your hands and hold your head up while looking around, and you typically do this while laying on Mommy or Daddy.  Your little head is so wobbly, and we can tell that it's very difficult for you, but we just melt every time you do it.

You are really starting to enjoy bath time, which was not the case at first.  You love the warm water running over your little body, and you especially love getting your head scrubbed.  You get the sweetest most relaxed look on your face when we sit you in the Puj tub for bath time.  You have the cutest head-full of spiky hair after bath time, which I have noticed lately is starting to fall out :( 

You have yet to become very interested in any kind of toy.  Mommy has laid you down on your activity mat a couple of times, but you either look away or cry to be picked up - you love to be held.  You will stare at a lamp or any kind of bright light for a pretty good while though.

You are overall a very even-tempered baby, which we are very thankful for.  The only time we really ever get some good crying out of you is if you have gas, and man do you cry!  Mommy's favorite game to play these days is Guess What This Sound Means.  You make a lot of different baby noises and are very good at keeping Mommy guessing. 

Your first month has been a joy, Mr. Jack, and we love you very much! 

Advanced?

So, the jury is still out, however, we feel that Jack may be "advanced". . .

He will be three weeks old tomorrow and with head-control as superior as this, we also think that he may say his first word pretty soon :)
